Square Dos
Yeah that’s right Square Two, because that’s what it’s all about – Steps.
In this case Baby Steps. It’s about progress not perfection. And January was just that for me. I felt my overall fitness program was good but not great. Know what? – I am still very pleased because it’s important that you pick yourself up and keep moving forward when you stumble (miss a workout, meal wasn’t perfect, etc.)
I knew I had to start out slow with laughably light weights. Haven’t lifted in awhile. I eased into the lifting with caution but regularity. I have learned from past experience that while our bodies can adapt remarkably – I want my 50 yr. old joints and muscles to stretch and recover without a lot of soreness. Missed the mark one week – hit calfs a little too hard and had to walk stiff-legged for about 3-4 days. It was kind of a strange mixture of pleasure/pain. I laughed when I walked.
Seriously – I missed about 3-4 workouts for the month, ate a little too much on “Cheat day”(once a week-Sundays for me) once and if I were to grade myself, I’d give myself a “B”. I just kept going and didn’t “freak” because I had potentially messed things up. Screw the grade curve, I’m giving myself an “A+”! I feel good overall.
I haven’t quite hit it yet, but I got a glimpse I think of things to come.
Lemme ‘Splain: I haven’t quite hit the “zone” yet. That time when your really into it and you know things will never be the same because your program and workouts are rockin’ and rollin’. The glimpse ? – One day at the gym I felt really refreshed and strong. I used perfect technique and the weights flew into position with ease, even though I had jacked them up a little from the previous workout. The post-weight cardio was the same also. I felt like Lance Armstrong on that Stationary Bike. It’s not always that way though – everyone knows that, there are days I’m draggin’ some.
There’s so much I wanna talk about – Cheat days, form, etc. But let me leave you going into Feb. with two things, my pics for the month and a thought for beginners. Newbies – if you workout at home, this shouldn’t be a problem. If you go to a Gym, take it from someone who knows: Don’t be self-concious about your looks if your out of shape when you first go to the club. You know why?: (Listen close) - BECAUSE NOBODY CARES !!! Everybody’s there for the same reason and their focusing on their workout – not you. You could be over in the corner doing handstand pushups and no one’s gonna care. Just do what you havta do and your time will come………..I promise. It may take awhile depending on how out of shape you are (you didn’t get this way overnight) but it will come in its on time as sure as the Morning Sun.
Just keep on keepin’ on !!
PS – I just wanted to keep a log of my fitness journey.
In that spirit – any grammatical imperfections are left here at my request.
Not that I can’t write well, that’s just me.
Besides, it’s my post – I‘ll do as I damn well please. (wink/wink)
Drumroll please .................................................
